Vintage Vehicles
Vintage cars are those automobiles that were built from 1919 until approximately 1930 – depending on who you ask. All agree that the end of World War One is the start of the era of vintage cars. What all do not agree on is when the vintage cars era ended. If you ask some in the UK she or he will tell you it ended in 1930. If you ask many vintage cars buffs in the United States you’ll hear the year 1925 given as the era’s end. The reason for the latter because the national Classic Car Club in the U.S. has defined 1925 as the beginning of the pre-classic car era.
There are those Americans, however, that believe that the era of vintage cars can happily overlap the Classic Car era. Their reasoning is that the designation vintage car actually takes in all the cars produced during the time period while the official designation pertains to those vintage cars that are high-end vehicles.
The era of vintage cars was a time of incredible change and growth in the automotive industry. At the beginning cars were rate. At the end of the era vintage and other cars were being mass produced at such an astonishing rate that it wasn’t mirrored again until 1950. During the vintage cars era most nations that had industrialized also built their own national road system. By the end of the vintage cars era vehicles didn’t need to be able to negotiate any unpaved roads – a requirement early on.
During the vintage cars era the automobile design become more comfortable, more practical and considerably more convenient. Radios and heat were introduced to the vintage cars design, as were antifreeze, power steering and four wheel brake pedals. Fuel rating for octane levels was introduced as well.
Automobiles were widely accepted by the end of the vintage cars era. Drive-ins came into being, as did shopping plazas and motels.
